E166 ‘Sustainable Cities and AI’ with Software Interactive’s Beata Dagiel & Sławomir Paszko

Welcome to episode E166 of the AI Ireland podcast, the show that explores the applications and research of Data Science, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence on the island of Ireland.

Our mission is to increase the use of AI for the benefit of our society, our competitiveness and everyone living in Ireland.

Today’s guests are Beata Dagiel, Head of International Business Development at Software Interactive & Sławomir Paszko, CEO at AISP. As cities grow, so does the need for smart, sustainable infrastructure that supports efficient, eco-friendly urban mobility. This is where Software Interactive and their subsidiary AISP step in with their cutting-edge AI Traffic Tracker – a solution shortlisted for this year’s AI Awards for its innovative approach to sustainability in traffic management.

Founded in 2007 in Poland, Software Interactive has grown into a major AI and software development powerhouse with over 170 skilled developers and offices spanning from Poland to Dubai, Canada, the UK and Ireland. Known for its high-quality, rapid solutions, Software Interactive specialises in custom software for diverse industries, focusing on applications that enhance efficiency and sustainability.

As Beata shares, “Our mission is to empower businesses with state-of-the-art, custom-built software solutions that drive sustainable growth.” The company’s latest project, the AI Traffic Tracker, embodies this mission, helping cities gather accurate, real-time data to optimise traffic flow, reduce emissions and support urban planning.

The AI Traffic Tracker, developed by AISP, addresses the limitations of traditional traffic measurement methods by automating the process through AI and computer vision. This technology can recognize 22 categories of vehicles and pedestrians with a remarkable 98% accuracy rate, replacing the need for manual traffic counts and providing more reliable data at a fraction of the cost.

AI is ideal for real-time traffic measurement,” explains Slawomir. “Our AI tracker analyzes video footage to detect and classify vehicles and pedestrians in high detail, helping cities collect essential traffic data without manual observation.” This approach enables cities to measure CO2 emissions, anticipate future traffic congestion and plan efficient transportation infrastructure.

For cities aiming to reduce their carbon footprint, accurate data on traffic flow and vehicle types is essential. The AI Traffic Tracker allows cities to monitor traffic patterns continuously, generating reports that can inform decisions on infrastructure and public transportation. Moreover, the software anonymises data, blurring license plates and pedestrians to protect privacy, making it ideal for public use in diverse urban environments.

Traffic engineers and city planners can even customise their data collection, drawing cross-sections of roads or setting parameters for velocity and trajectory measurements. This flexibility helps cities fine-tune their analysis, providing granular insights that can be used to improve everything from traffic light timing to public transport routes.

One of the most exciting aspects of the AI Traffic Tracker is its potential for widespread implementation. “This tool can be deployed in any city worldwide, providing invaluable insights for smarter, greener urban planning,” notes Slawomir. Beyond its current applications, Software Interactive sees opportunities to expand the AI’s capabilities, potentially transforming urban management practices on a global scale.

As Beata explains, the future is about empowering businesses and municipalities with custom solutions that align with their unique goals and operational needs. With a focus on innovation and adaptability, Software Interactive is leading the way for sustainable digital transformation.

As an AI Awards finalist, Software Interactive is setting a new standard for how AI can drive urban sustainability. Their AI Traffic Tracker provides cities with the data they need to make informed, sustainable choices that not only reduce congestion but also improve the quality of life for residents.

In an era where cities are becoming ever more connected, solutions like the AI Traffic Tracker offer a glimpse into a future where data-driven decisions create greener, more livable urban spaces.
